Remembrance Day

Written by Emergency Response Apprentice Amy Lowe

On Wednesday 11th November alongside many of my colleagues, I observed the 2 minutes silence at the memorial not far from GMFRS Headquarters.
At the end of the 2 minutes silence before returning, I spoke to our new Chief Fire Officer Peter O’Reilly. We had a conversation about my progress in my apprenticeship role in the emergency response hub. The photographer asked our chief if I could stand near the memorial so he could take a photograph. Peter asked the photographer if I could be on the picture with him and the photographer said that it was ok. I was thrilled to be asked as the picture was put on the fire service Twitter account and Peter wrote a really nice tweet about me. He tweeted that I have made great progress throughout my apprenticeship and he described me as a shining light!

It was lovely to have a catch up with our new chief as he is always friendly and always makes the effort to come over and ask how I am doing with my apprenticeship. Hopefully I have left a good impression and will continue to impress.
